A Look Back at 2017 - AOSAP Chairperson
The year 2017 was an exciting one again for AOSpine Asia Pacific (AOSAP). We went from strength to strength during the year in terms of both our membership base and the quality of our educational and research activities. We continued to implement the priorities set forth in our development strategy by delivering innovative education and research in spine care, and encouraging lifelong learning among practitioners.

Without the support of both AOSpine council chairs and officers, Asia Pacific executive team and many individual members, the year’s achievement would not have been possible. I would like to express my sincere thanks to everyone for their timeless efforts, continued valuable contributions and strong commitment to ensuring our projects are successful.

A Look Back at 2017 - AOSAUNZ Chairperson
Whilst it is an honour to accept nomination and election as the Chairperson of the AOSpine Australia and New Zealand Council, I accept the position with some anxiety and trepidation. Whilst I look forward to working closely with the Council members, AOSpine members and associates, and all stakeholders this will not be enough to see AOSpine survive in Australia. We need to find a way to secure a place for AOSpine in a competitive spinal education market place - something we’ve not been able to do to date.

The Advanced Level Specimen Course held last November 2017 in Sydney was a great success. The fully subscribed cadaveric course not only covered a diverse assortment of complex surgical techniques but included navigation and microscope training. Well done Ed, Kris and Gert.

In 2018 we’ll be trying to run our Principles, ORP and Masters Seminar simultaneously to increase the number of senior surgeons available to teach and interact with our junior trainees.

I’d like to welcome Dr. Mitchell Hansen (Australia) who is being elected as the Council Officer for Spine Centers & Fellowships and Kris Dalzell for taking on Community Development. I’d like to thank Ed Yee and Gert Tollesson for extending their appointments by twelve months.

A Look Back at 2017 - AOSCN Chairperson
2017 was truly an extraordinary year for AOSCN. In the past year, we have successfully collaborated with CASSC, CAOS and COA. Especially, we had two lecture halls on the same day with COA, and the participation rate was still high. During this year, 14 events were held with a total of 2045 participants recorded. More intriguingly, our faculty members have raised over 80% in 2017 as compared with 2016. In the upcoming New Year, we shall carry on the past and open a broad way for greater progress of AOSCN.

A Look Back at 2017 - AOSIN Chairperson
2017 was a happy year for the AOSIN - not only did we grow to an all-time high membership of 480 - a 23% jump since the last year , we also conducted 10 courses, mostly were oversubscribed , and most importantly - we were re-christened ! With our friendly neighbors Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka joining the ranks - the AOSIN is now the AOSpine Indian Subcontinent - an alliance that promises to take the AOSpine philosophy to newer heights, transcending borders and spreading camaraderie through academics! The AOSIN also recruited a fresh batch of 62 new delegates through an extremely successful election this year - and our new team seems poised to hit the ground running! With a lot of expectations from the 2018-19 season - AOSIN seems to be on the top of the rock as the most influential academic bodies in the region! Three cheers to the AOSAP and the AOSpine International community for helping us achieve our goals - and look forward to an exciting academic season ahead.

AOSJP membership reached a historical highest number of 611 paid members. In response to surgical training needs we started the Live Tissue Training Courses from 2016 which were received positively. A New type of educational session, satellite style symposiums (connecting Kobe and Tokyo) was executed in Nov 2017. We are planning to have master symposiums in 2018. There are many seminars and educational events nowadays. It is important to think about the strength of AOSpine and how we can offer high quality education to all levels of spine surgeons.

A Look Back at 2017 - AOSKR Chairperson
2017 was a productive and successful year for AOSKR. Over the last year AOSKR council has made important progress on hosting more educational events, increasing new members and developing various business. Our membership in 2017 has reached 184 which is almost 40% increase from 132 in 2016, and we successfully hosted 5 courses with 127 faculties and 294 course participants in 2017. This proves our solid growth compared to last year when we only had 4 courses with 70 faculties and 241 participants. Above all, we have put our best efforts to bring better ideas together for providing participants with more upgraded learning opportunities and quality contents. Thanks to that, last video symposium in November 2017 was a big success as we invited four eminent regional faculties and adopted a full video presentation method to lectures for the first time. As another new great progress, since 2017 we have prepared the first AOSpine Korea Congress at international level which will be hosted on 7th of July, 2018. We believe this congress will be a stepping stone for AOSKR to create a better future. Lastly, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all of KR council members and AOSpine Asia Pacific team for their fantastic support and collaboration which made the year of 2017 more successful.
