Faculty development in the AO aims at fostering and supporting our faculty to provide the best possible teaching at our clinical courses. Faculty Development training is designed to nuture the best faculty by delivering competency-based programs to faculty members that offer a broad range of learning opportunities and help them achieve their educational goals. The objectives are to promote excellence in teaching, to facilitate surgeon learning and curriculum development. Strategies developed in the programs can positively impact on course design and more generally contribute to our mission to deliver high quality education.
In 2017, Faculty Education Program (FEP) & Chairperson Education Program (CEP) were held in 16-18 June in Hong Kong. Both programs were designed to give tools and training to clinical experts to become better teachers and experts in education. They were equipped not only with theoretical understanding but also with the practical skills required to fit together the different elements that lead to an effective educational event.
This program is designed to train AO faculty by improving their educational skills, knowledge and expertise. Participants will be giving the opportunity to explore a variety of teaching methods. FEP concentrates on practical skills rather than on theory.
The program will equip chairpersons with the skills and tools to create and adjust course templates according to their learner’s needs. The program encourages participants to work with their own course material and implement their freshly acquired skills and knowledge in the areas of course development, assessment and evaluation. It focuses on teaching methods, logistics, and relationship with industry and faculty management.
