Faculty development in the AO aims at fostering and supporting our faculty to provide the best possible teaching at our clinical courses. The objectives are to promote excellence in teaching, to facilitate surgeon learning and curriculum development. Strategies developed in the programs can positively impact on course design and more generally contribute to our mission to deliver high quality education.
How can faculty development benefit you?
Faculty development is the key to a successful teaching role for you as a surgeon, providing you with opportunities to strength non-surgical skills while advancing your career.
2018 FEP & CEP
Both programs were designed to give tools and training to clinical experts to become better teachers and experts in education. They were equipped not only with theoretical understanding but also with the practical skills required to fit together the different elements that lead to an effective educational event.

PARTICIPANTS' FEEDBACK

First of all, I would like to thank AO Foundation, who invests wonderful education instructors and place in training to develop faculty that can perform their better roles. This program is very informative and passionate. Abhay, Vijay, and Siow are wonderful instructors. I believe having them as instructors was the best part. I would like to express gratitude to them involved in preparing and conducting a thorough training session during the subsequent face-to-face meeting and online follow-up period and doing their best in the feedback. FEP gives much help to applying self-trained content and for being well educated, and for applying feedback to students and followers in my classroom and institute. I always remember "What do you think went well?" "What do you think can be improved next time?"

“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. But Involve me and I learn.” This is a popular quote of Benjamin Franklin. The AOSpine Faculty Education Program is a remarkable reflection of this statement where the faculty members and office bearers of AOSpine made sure that every participant learnt the nuances of the art of teaching through dedicated lectures, practical sessions and active discussion. Though I have been involved in academic lectures and group discussions previously, this two-day intensive program was an eye-opener as it helped me to understand the goals of teaching, the preparation needed for an academic event and also comprehend the needs and limitations of the learners. I thank AOSpine for the wonderful opportunity.
AOSpine Chairperson Education Program (CEP)
The program will equip chairpersons with the skills and tools to create and adjust course templates according to their learner’s needs. The program encourages participants to work with their own course material and implement their freshly acquired skills and knowledge in the areas of course development, assessment and evaluation. It focuses on teaching methods, logistics, and relationship with industry and faculty management

AOSpine faculty training program is the most comprehensive training program to train the trainers. With pre-course online module I was primed for the event, but went for the course with little apprehension and stress, but to my surprise came out with confidence and focused mission to perform and give quality guided and open-minded results. The training methods adopted were the best and trained me to address the knowledge gaps both by active participant involvement and backward planning methods. The course faculty were excellent and would listen to all our ideas and thoughts no matter how irrelevant or basic they were and helped us built on them and evolve a better understanding of the situation

The two-day Chairperson Education Course has been well organized with great faculty and teaching content. Chairperson competencies should be pivotal in organizing the educational activity. Work would be effective and successful if using previous assessment data to improve current activity, identifying gaps of learners, paying attention to the pre-course meeting, matching faculty, and promoting reflection, etc. Absolutely, it does do a lot to help me in organizing a meeting as Chairperson.

Furthermore, it was really great for me to meet so many good participants. We got to know each other and soon became friends.

I sincerely enjoy the time during the CEP course.
